Take off the top cooler line on the radiator .... stuff a rubber plug into the rad hole ( sometimes it tries to puke out some there ). Hook a hose to that cooler line you got hanging and place in a 5 gallon bucket to catch oil comming out . Get about 12 quarts ready to pour . Crank her up , and while the old fluids squirting into the bucket , you need to be pouring new stuff into the dipstick .... and watch for the color to turn pink going into the bucket .... when its pink , shut her off .
Replace the cooler line , crank her up and check level . Add if needed .
(Oh and try to be pouring fluid back into the dipstick , the same rate as is comming out into the bucket .... Yea its a rough guess .... but you dont want the pan to run dry for long . You can tell if you are too slow adding it .... because the fluid will be sputtering out the rubber tube in the bucket )
for the mazda 5 speed it is 7.6 pints which is 3.8 quarts and for the zf 5 speed it is 6.8 pints which is 3.4 quarts. are you going to put the atf back in it? when I put new seals and the 3 plugs in mine I used royal purple synchromax oil.it is an all synthetic oil designed for transmissions using the atf. I did that in 2005 and it still shifts smooth.
when i get the time and energy i am going to change the rear end 80-90 oil to royal purple max gear synthetic 75-140.
i am just starting to do things on my truck again, after my operation, chemo and radiation for pancreatic cancer starting in april of 2006. Jack
