ok. heres a really good question. I have a 1964 for f100 with a 292 v-8 that i am contimplating putting efi on. now, all efi units use the ignition to tell the efi where #1 is, now, I have a points dizzy right now, if i was to put in a points elimination kit that uses a optical triggering, will that trigger the efi????? also, for the most part, what kinda signal does efi systems use or reqire???? hall effect??? magnetic???? will a aftermarket dizzy trigger it?????? also, what kinda system did ford usein the tfi system????/ is that a hall effect triggering system???? or a magnetic triggering system????? I guess, I just wanna know how to go about triggering the efi so I can use efi on this less common motor.
The TFI uses a magnetic pick-up in the dizzy. Nothing special on knowing where #1 cyl is since the cap and rotor do this. Not sure how the SEFI knows which cylinder is firing though. The batch type systems used on most non-HO engines just fire 4 and 4 injectors together.
What type of system are you looking at? Most come with everything that you need if you are going aftermarket.
well, accel or holley but they both require the tfi dizzy. ther is also this new one i stumbled on called retrotek. here'stheirwebsite: http://www.retrotekspeed.com/
thats why i am asking. If i know what type the tfi is, maybe i can duplicate it some how. arethe durasparks hall effect or magnetic?????? i think they are hall effect but not sure. see, i am try'n to put TBI efi(not multiport. intake ports are stacked instead of next to each other) on a vintage motor. I know that i can convert the stock points dizzy to duraspark or with a points elimination kit but wasnt sure as to what would work. maybe i can take the pip from a tfi dizzy and make it work somehow in the stock 292 dizzy. as you can tell, tryn to do this on the cheap. msd makes a dizzy for the 292 but i ont have 400 bucks for a dizzy.
The Duraspark has a magnetic pick-up as well. Does Performance Distributors have a DUI for the Y-block? I haven't checked. I have one in my 351W that I put in my 63 and it is a nice quality unit.

The durasparks is magnetic and a coil the tfi is Hall effect device, a magnetic flux field is completed from the magnet through the Hall effect device and back to the magnet..
On engines having sequential electronic fuel injection (SEFI), one tooth on the vane cup is smaller than the rest to identify when cylinder No. 1 is at 10 degrees BTDC. The width of the PIP signal generated by this tooth is smaller than that of the other teeth and is called signature PIP.
hmmmmmmmm.......... ok. so, in order to use the tfi on my vintage motor, I also have to modify the tfi dizzy haft and my 292 shaft. the 302 dizzy shaft is to short. wonder if a 460 duraspark would work???? have to look up the dimensions. thanxs guys.
