UF student tasered
Heres the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IATPoHdpak0
a taser is meant as an escalation of force weapon, not to take place of basic police tactics.
plus with the number of cops there, there is no reason for them to taser the guy.
as i mentioned in another thread about this, the taser is making up for lazy cops.
police are taught the ladder of force, you apply equal or one step above what the person you are trying to apprehend is doing, in no way with so many cops and the guy not having a weapon or really doing nothing other than running his mouth and trying to pull away from the cops grabbing, should he have been tasered.
for those who do not know, the taser is not some magical safe device to shoot people with.
Id have to agree with the part bf250 when he said its making up for lazy police. Im not saying theyre bad people, but i think they shouldnt be able to tase someone just because theyve been tased in training and know what it feels like. That dosnt give you a free pass to tase who you like. What if he had a heart condition or something and he died? Im sure people have died from tasers. Im epileptic, what if that was me? I might not be able to handle that.
Is it just me or should police have to know some form of combat? I mean, go to you tube and youll find plenty of videos where people are putting up a good fight against cops. In the situation where a cop is being beaten, its tase time, not when a kid wont calm down and you dont feel like wrestling with him. When you signed up to be a cop you shouldve thought of that.
As i said im not saying theyre bad people by any means. I respect a good 85-90% of the police. Im sure it gets old fast having to deal with a bunch of disrespectful a-holes. As i said though, you shouldve thought of that when signing up to be a cop.
My biggest thought is that a lot of police are in poor shape and cant defend or subdue someone their size very well. Is this due to a lack of police?
The way he was fighting there is a good chance he could have ended up with a broken wrist or worse.
There may be something to the lazy cop opinion, but the fact remains, if you are being put in cuffs, resisting just makes things worse and it never prevents you from seeing life with vertical visual interrupters.

but a cop does not dish out the punishment, that is for the courts to do. a taser, as stated, is an escalation of force device, it is not suppose to take place of basic apprehension techiques.
and if you observe the video, you will see not one single cop used an appropriate escort technique when they were escorting him out of the audience, if they would have then they would have been easily able to control him, hence what the escort compliance is for. poor training.
there are 4 cops there, still need a taser? when on the ground?
the taser should be used for situations when i cop feels that his/her physical well being might be at stake, such as a big guy trying to physically fight, or someone with a suspected weapon not doing as they are told, etc.
go scan the news and there are tons of cases now of cops tasering people that did not need to be tasered, medical conditions, language barriers etc. also tasering has killed people.
it did not come to know point for him to get tasered, there were plenty of cops around to physically handle him.
Some news reports shortly after the incident gave some information that suggests he had one of his friends holding his video camera, and he said, "are you ready?" when he asked the questions that got his mike shut off.
Also, did you notice the older woman in the white T-shirt in the aisle, grinning like a cheshire cat? She didn't look too upset by the whole thing.
More video, taken in the lobby, shows the police asking for his ID. He said, "I don't have my wallet. I didn't think I'd need my wallet." Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all students and visitors to a college campus have to carry and produce ID, for security reasons? Curious, especially when you know that security will be tighter at a forum with a member of the US Senate as speaker.
1. Obey the law
2. Use common sense
3. Stop Immediately. "If the police have to come and get you, they're bringing an @$$ kicking with them.
4. Turn that **** off.
5. Be polite.
6. Shut the **** up.
Get a white friend.
7. Don't ride with a mad woman.
Unfortunately, I cannot recall the direct quote, but to paraphrase...
"When they came for the Jews, I said nothing, as I was not a Jew.
When they came for the Polish, I said nothing, as I was not Polish.
When they came for the Gypsies, I said nothing, as I was not a Gypsy.
When they came for the Protestants, I said nothing, as I was not a Protestant.
When they came for me, there was no one left to say anything at all."
Really? Just obey the police? Suppose Police Departments around the world decided tommorow to beat, taser, arrest and imprison all those with internet screen names that refer to "keepinitreal?"
Should we still just obey?
