Alternator output
Picked up my truck after getting the alarm system installed. The installer had to charge the batteries to get it started. It'll start now, but I was curious as to why the batteries died. I load tested both and they showed O.K., but low.Then I checked the alternator output- 13.7v tops. Isn't that a bit low, especially on batteries that need charging? Its an '06 6.0. Anybody know what that alternator should be putting out?

Thanks for the reply. They must have left something on to drain 2 750cca batteries! The other thing is, I can still see the little orange ***** thru the top of the batteries. I'm hoping they will dissapear when the batteries get fully charged.

I've been curious about the output as well. My stereo (Pioneer AVIC-N1) has a battery gauge on it and in the mornings, it's just over 14 volts but by the time the truck warms up, it's down to about 13.5. At night, when I'm running the heater on high, lights on, stereo at a reasonable volume, it'll drop down to 12 when sitting at a stoplight... Battery is about 3 years old, original alternator.
