rear diff problems

i am having trouble with my rear diff, and drive shaft on my 95 F-150, 5.0, 4x4, 8.8 axle. when relized i had a lot of play in my rear driveshaft and the pinion oil seal was leaking i took of the driveshaft and pinion nut and replaced the seal. well i found that there was more damage under the surface. there is something wrong with the shaft running thru my diff. it has all kinds of play, but the bearings are good and so is everything that i could see in the rear of the diff when i took the plate off. so i go to tighten everthing back down and the pinion nut bottomed out before it all got tight. the flange on wont press into the diff housing. it still has about two inches to go. i didnt cross threard and all the spacers and stuff is there. what do i do. i thought about buying a new hub to hub assembly. is there any other options. looking for advice or a new axle. help if you can.
