Carbon Canisters.............

Lariat 85 and I are still wondering if we need the canisters. Mine is 351HO with aftermarket Holley and air cleaner. Does not look as if it is connected now...

What it is for is catching the evaporative emissions. Doesn't really hurt anything to be there, just can't purge by having the carb draw it.

The only rub with the canister is the vent for the gas tank. You should have a line running up the frame rail that comes from the gas tank and goes to the canister. Your gas cap is sealed, so this is the only place the tank gets air that I know of, so don't plug it. But, leaving it open, you will occasionally get a gas smell under the hood.

You could run it up to the aircleaner somewhere and it possibly would contain some of the fumes.

Dave...Just looked ay my 84...351...Has 2 canisters..One has not be used in ages...the other has a tube going to it from a splitter It is hooked to the top canister...but the other connector is broken off...so any fumes have not been getting to the canister anyway. Why can't a vented cap...or caps for dual tanks... be used and do away with the cans ?...J
