trailer towing question

1999 ranger 2wd four cylinder auto with 4.10 rear. Stock tranny cooler built into radiator. I have a little 5x8 tilt trailer i am thinking of pulling with it, and haul my little commercial walk-behind mower. I figure trailer and mower couldnt be more than a 1000 pounds. Would this truck do okay pulling this? The only thing that bothers me is the auto tranny. So what do you all think? Should i try it? I could save some gas versus hauling it my ole f-150..

later!! chris

Absolutely! Although I wouldn't recommend it on a daily tow I've towed a 16' tandem axle loaded with 2 tons of posts and fence up to my cabin on the hill several times and she did just fine and didn't sag. I also have a 5x8 tilt trailer that I use for various smaller chores such as hauling mowers, 4-wheeler, etc. with no problem.

The book says your regular cab 2.5 L auto tranny, with a 4.10 rear end, is good for a max, 2240 lbs trailer weight.

By comparison the 2.5L manual tranny model with 3.73 rear end, was only rated for 1600 lbs, max trailer weight.

So, your auto tranny isn't so wimpy as you had imagined!!!! lol

for the size trailer and weight I think that is gonna be the perfect truck for you. I keep watching these local landscapers with there 1 ton diesels pulling that size trailer will some extra hand tools and a weedwacker. to me thats a waste of money, and not good for the motor, as most lawncare guys do local trips, drive 15 mins, do a lawn, drive 15 more, do a lawn, drive 15 more, etc. You catch my drift. So for your situation i think it's perfect truck for the task.
