Heard another report today about new vehicles that were flodded in Katrina are still turning up at dealers. BE VERY AWARE! If you getting a deal you cannot pass up. The report said most of the VINs are accounted for and have been destroyed by their respectiv manufacturers but several thousand still out there that have been exposed to raw sewage, hazardous materials and water and have been cleaned up and offered for sale.
"COOL", I like to find a new 05 mustang GT convertable from Katrina for a couple of grand. It would suck however if you didn't know what you were getting. However for a hobbest like myself, could be some great deals, some jeep tj's would be nice as well. I wish some would show up around here.
"Water cars" usually aren't too tough to get operational again. The problem with cars from New Orleans, or Miss., is salt water. Salt corrosion never stops. Problems show in the wiring first. Any copper in the wiring goes quickly, and the terminals corrode very badly. I have had a few of these vehicles, and some of the connectors cannot be removed as the are welded to the sockets.
Where the salt water gets into the body, in body seams, hidden areas such as kick panels, etc., the water continues eating away. It may slow down in hot weather, but when the humidity goes up, it starts eating again.
If it's a Katrina car, it's scrap as far as I'm conerned. jd
