I am just looking for some opinions here.... Its a '99 Super Duty 4x4
I need to replace the tie rod ends. I have a tight budget. I was shoppin around and see that spicer has a professional grade, and a red label service grade. I use the truck for work and hauling dirt bikes/camping. NO serious off roading, just fire/access roads. I don't want to kill myself or the family on a fun weekend if parts break.
I guess my question is, are the red label service grade at least as good as the stockers?? the stock parts have been great for my needs so far.
Well, here is my hesitation. Spicer has two grades of parts. The professional grade and the service grade. The professional grade is about the same price as Moog. the service grade is seriously half the price.... $120 vs $250.
That sounds like the difference in TRW vs Moog. They come from the same parent company, but the moog is higher quality. I personally don't believe in skimping on parts that could end your life, but really all that should happen is they have about half the life of the more expensive version. If you want to do the job twice buy cheap, if you don't want to do the job again for a really long time invest in the higher priced parts.
I have had WAY too many bad moog experiences... I had to warantee SOOO many we switched to dana chassis ( napa ) have been really happy since and our warantee chassis parts have gone down to almost zero

This is good information to have. Experience from a service writer's point of view.
There are certain brands in my field of experience that I avoid like the plague as well, and also certain brands that, if they are available, I choose over all the others regardless of price.
I like my moog parts. Except that when I installed ball joints, i didnt didnt down the grease fitting enough and the u-joint decided to tear off the fitting, leaving half of it stuck in and I cant remove it. This is going to be an interesting warranty.
I haven't had a warranty issue with moog in the 8 years I have been selling them, but I am working with a lighter application. However, my 79 and 89 F150 both sported and enjoyed Moog parts that the part numbers ended with a "T". The T makes a big difference.
Let me ask you ReAX, if the grease fitting broke off, can I get it warrentied without a problem? I also had no choice but I had to grease it, so I went from the back of the joint, and used a needle tip, and shoved it in there to grease it. Yes it was stupid, but for me to replace the balljoint, requires me buying all new seals, so Im going to replace everything at once.
I was going through lower ball joints every 6 months on my 1997 F150, we had a lady at work who we waranteed her outer tie rod ends 3 oil changes in a row ( 3000 mile intervals ) till the last set when one fell apart while she was pulling out of her driveway.. it was towed back in.... All Im saying is Im glad it was not on the highway..
This is just my experience, many Im sure will have other experiences. We switched to the napa ( dana chassis ) line and have had just a few bad parts.
Well, we are using Truck parts on cars, so we have a bit of a gap in intended weight. However, the Moog parts are superior to the Delcos we were using. I wouldn't doubt Dana/Spicer is better product, but I have had good experience on light vehicles with moog.
I really doubt the zerk will be covered by warranty since it should have inserted all the way during installation. That's just my opinion, though and I would really struggle to do a warranty unless Moog said they would cover it.
