I have a 1992 F250 with a 351, it runs great, but lately I have noticed when I'm at a stop light the oil pressure drops down to the red zone on the gauge, I quickly idle the engine up and it recovers back to the normal range and it stays there while I am driving. (Oil level is good)
Any ideas on what I should check and/or what would cause this to happen??
Is this on the factory gauge or an aftermarket gauge? I've read on here that the factory gauge is basically a glorified idiot light and not too reliable. I had my dad check the oil pressure on mine with a gauge he has at his shop, and it's fine, despite what my '87's factory gauge shows. Odds are the sending unit is crap. But it'd be wise to check it with a known good gauge just to be safe.
Mine did the same thing on my 94 w/ 302 and it turned out to be the sending unit was crap... or well I think I now have a wet gauage installed. The pressure on it is around 50 cold and drops to around 25 warm
