After two months and numerous set backs my 390 lives. Got everything back together last night, fluid in, but it was too dark to start it. My daughter was sick today so I got to stay home, didn't take much persuasion. Went to crank it over and the battery was dead, thought oh no I hope this doesn't keep up. Put the charger on it for two hours went up turned the key and it fired right up. Set the idle at about 1200 and let it run. Oil pressure with a stock pump was 60 pounds cold, temp run right at 212. Forgot to put the timing light on before starting so I set it by ear until it was running smooth. Let it run for 35 minutes like that and then started to back the idle down. Temp climbed like I new it would, but not much. Oil pressure at idle was 35 pounds, which surprised me. Shut it off so I could hook up the timing light and it wouldn't crank. I left the charger on , but think that the alternator is probably getting bad.

Congratulations Bob, that's great! Yeah you have had your ups and downs with that motor but it was worth it in the end. She sounds a little tight, just keep an eye on the temp. 'till she loosens up a little. Great oil pressure, change it and don't use those cheap Fram filters. Some may disagree but I like to retorque. Have to hand it to ya, that homemade cam bearing installer was slick. Don't you love it when they fire right up? It seemed like I had to crank my cold-blooded CJ forever, thought I had wiped out the cam before it even had a chance.
Yeah keep us updated, we're here to help with whatever birth pangs that may show up. (I doubt it.)
Thanks Barry. I checked the timing after I restarted it and I had it on 8 degrees by ear. I took it for a short spin before dark and man does it run quiet compared to my old 360. Checked it this morning for leaks and found none. I need to pick up a few things in town this morning so I will probably take it and give it a longer run than last night. How long do you run your engines before changing oil at break-in? I was going to go about 50 miles then change.
Well, it may be overkill but I like to get that initial start-up oil out early like you and then go about 500 miles before changing the break-in oil. You'd be surprised how much metal is inside the filter, cut it open for fun. Don't over-rev it or put on too much load but also vary the rpms during the break-in period. You should feel the motor loosen up and the idle speed will increase. I'm always taken back at how quiet a rebuilt engine is compared to the old one. Guess you just get used to all those noises.
