I have a 01 ford ranger with a 4.0. In the morning if it's below 65 degrees my truck won't shift in to overdrive, untill I drive about a mile down the road. Once the truck is warm, when I come to a complete stop and go to take off, at about 1300 rpms the whole truck jerks violently. when Im driving on the highway if I get out of the gas, and then get back in to it. The RPM'S will go up to about half way between where they where in overdrive, and where they would be out of overdrive. Any Ideas?

Post this in the transmission section, you'll get a LOT more response, and a more specialized help staff. IMO.
It sound like on the road, warmed up, it is falling out of OD, and torque converter lockup when you get off the gas. It should not do that. If the TPS is flaky, it can be signalling the ECM that you are doing something with the throttle that could demand un-lock and 3rd gear. If the speed sensor is flaky, it could be telling the ECM you are in the wrong gear for the speed it is 'sensing'.
Pull the codes, check the fluid for smell and amount.

Do the trans fluid test!!! Put a clean paper towel down and take the dipstick out and let the fluid fall onto the paper towel, then clean the dipstick and put into a fresh bottle of fluid, Let that fall onto the paper towel a couple inches away from the other spot and compare!! The fresh fluid should spread nicely the used up fluid will sit and look nasty if it is worn out. After you do this test on different vehicles, ages of fluid and type of uses. You will see a pattern and be able to gauge a fluid s condition pretty reliably!!! I vote for the TC not locking up too!! It is electrically controlled and you could have a solenoid going bad or it's gunked up!!
