Removing Steering Arm Ball

The ball on the steering arm of my 56 F100 is pretty worn, so I ordered a replacement ball. Now I'm trying to figure out how to take the original ball off. It looked like it was pressed in place and the backside flattened to keep it in place, so I ground off the backside. But I can't seem to drive it out of the arm. Was it screwed in and then flattened or am I just not hitting it hard enough?

It's pressed in,may want to take it to a spring shop to get it done, they're in there big tight.

Yup, You won't have much luck banging on it, you will need a press.
