Ok, I might have my hands on an 83 towncar with a 460 for 2 bills, now my question is, did Ford put the 460 in front of an NP435? I currently have a 300 I6 in my 66 F-250 with the 4 speed, I want to keep the 4 speed, but put in the 460... the 6 is going into my 63 F-250 4x, and that is a whole nuther ball of wax... but first things first,,, 460/NP435 yes?
I have seen several 460's run thru the new process 435, 4gear, manuals transmissions. So I know they will work and last.
I doubt I would do that however.
I don't know if it was done by FoMoCo or not, because the ones I know of were done by the persons building them.
Low is all but useless for anything but pulling stumps & houses.
I do know the bellhousings & Flywheels are very pricey and I believe the 460 is better suited to an automatic in terms of
efficiency & economy. But as I asid jt has been done and they can be made to work.
Pickup if you like shifting, have you thought about other manual transmissions that came on the 460 with more gears that give the bennifiet of overdrive? Like a ZF S5-42, S5-47, or Tremmec TKO? The T-56 might be able to attach with an adapter. But there are a few more options available if you willing to cross bred. Just a few thoughts.
I would LOVE to throw a 5 speed behind it, but she is a working truck and has a budget of about $0 ! Bessie isn't due for a frame off yet,,,,, I have to get the 77 conv bug out of the garage first!
