Where would be the best place to look for a Front axle for a 87- 96 F-350. none of the salvage yards around here have one for less than 1500.
also i am changing the rear main seal in my 80 f-350, with a 400, four speed. Should I go ahead and pull the engine out, or just drop the pan while its in the truck? I dont have a lot of time. ( maybe two days.) Any hints, tricks or knowledge is appreciated.
I personally would pull the engine. That's because I have a engine hoist, and a concrete floor under roof. I hate working overhead, laying underneath the truck, with oil dripping in my face. I could do it in two days if I had the whole day. The only problem with my way of doing it is the exhaust manifold bolts. It's a roll of the dice whether the bolts on the y-pipe will come loose or break off. But you may have to loosen them anyway to lift the engine to get the pan out, so that part may be a wash no matter which way you choose to do it.
I went to www.car-part.com and plugged in a 89 f350, Texas, front axle housing, 3.54 ratio, without ABS, and found this. 1991
Front Axle Assy.

No 4.10 ratios would come up. If you live near another state, or are willing to drive a little bit, plug in some other areas and see what comes up.
Thanks, I dont mind driving to get an axle. I just dont want to dive a long way just for a part I am going to ghave to replace the ring and pinion in. I dont have to have an axle right now. mine drives just no 4x4. but as for the engine I have a shop and lift. as for the y pipi it has straights. but they I have the feeling they are just as froze up as the y pipe would be. I guess I will find out in the morning.
