wild ride

I just had a blow out on passenger side rear. I was doing about 70 down the hiway. It raised the back of the truck and turned it in to a bucking Bronco. But I was surprized it was very controlable. Sure cleared out the trafic around me though. LOL. I guess its time for new sneeckers.

I got the Futura Dakota from Shlep boys!! They are actually decent A/T tires Real good in deep sand and they clean well in the mud at a decent speed(acouple blips keep them clean) They are wearing even and not much at all really!!!They were $90.00 bucks out the door when I got them for 33's!! I mount my own tires by hand and never use wheel weights and they don't have no problems with vibration or noise!!
They are some of the more balanced carcass I think I have mounted!! I lost the rear tire on my old econoline I thought I just picked up some cardboard from the road and it was rubbing in the wheel well by the time I pulled over the tire came off the rim and was 40 feet on the side of the road, I was looking in the mirror and had my buddy looking out the window for the cardboard then he said whoa there goes your tire!!!

I'm looking on E-Bay at tires. They are cosmetic blems. Does anybody have any experince with them? I dont care about cosmetic. (I mount black-wall out) But I dont want noise or vibration. I usally balance my own tires with an electronic balancer made for helicopters. it works pretty good. Most shops wont balance 14" wide wheels. I'm probubly going to get M/T ATZ's

What brand tires they got if all it is cosmetic and the shipping is right could be something to check out!!! I wouldn't even bother balancing unless you drive +75mph all the time! I don't have any issues with balance or wear problems,But you got me curios on the heli balancer??????

The tires are Michkey Thompson's. The seller is shoppytrish. They sell alot of tires on ebay. (all blems) Quite a bit cheaper.

The heli-balancer works good, but is a pain to hook up. I have to hook the sensors to one rear axle and jack the back end off the ground. Then I run the truck to 75 MPH on the speedo and take a reading. It tells me where to put the weight. I have to balance one tire at a time and swap them to the other corners.

I work 400 miles from home. I have to drive it once every two weeks. (2 on/2 off) So I need it to be balanced for the highway.

What is it a strobe balancer? That's what they use at the 4wd shop down here then they true the tire tread to make it more balanced(actually remove rubber) and round!!
I know some trucks on 44" tires that had it done and they are smooth running and even with swampers don't make that much noise, Most of the mud tire noise is from the tire actually being out of round!!! I know it's pretty pricey but if you drive alot of miles truing your rubber might be worth it!!!

I have a strobe for my balancer also. But it's not needed to balance with the sensors I have. I had swampers before and I must say the quality was not good. (as far as out of round) I would think that makes for vibration, but not noise. I think the big open lugs make noise. My Dirt grips are much better in both cases. I feel they are almost as good in mud. (but not quite) I'm hopping for the same from the Michkey Tompson's. The tred on the ATZ's is less agressive than Dirt Grips. So My (off-road) traction may suffer.

Noise is technically something vibrating!!! I noticed the guys with the tires trued were way quieter than others!! With open gap mud tires the variations in height are much more pronounced so shaving them to as close to even will manage alot of the noise they make!!! You could always get a tire groover and make your own tread design!!! or make the tire perform how you want!! A/T tread towards the inner then on the outside open up the lugs to fling mud!!! So on the road the contact patch is mostly the stock AT tread but the outer area being wide open lugs!! When my tires run down finally I am going to borrow my buddies tire groover and try it!!! I live in Florida so I need a sand tire for 85% of my driving off road!!!

Interestine. I live north Florida and nobody around here can even balance my tires let alone true and grove them! I've heard of that truing process and toyed with the idea of making my own. In any case, I hardly go fourwheeling anymore. All I do is work. Is'nt that the way, I finnally got my truck fixed the way I like it and dont have time to have fun. I even have a small mud hole on my own property and I've only been in it with my tractor. At least it's four wheel drive. LOL

There's a 4wd shop down here that will do it for you!!! They do supersingles so I think they can handle any tire you got!!! With all these concrete trucks down here,
running super singles all the way around, one quick stop and there goes $600.00 for each tire, if all of them got flat spots you can feel it and it will beat the truck and driver to death!! so a true job is worth it!!!!
