What all is needed to change to put a automatic trany in a 1981 ford f100 with a 4.9 300 inline six with a 3 speed manual?

tranny cooler lines
starter
kick down rod or tv cable for aod
maybe back up lite wires and neutral saftey wires or switches
I did this using a 1983 e150 as a donor into a 76 e150
using a donor truck is easiest way to get all parts at one time

Definitely, I was suprised how many times I had to pull other parts off the donor truck when I did my auto to stick conversion.

i would assume the drive shafts should still work on the auto. i took and 86 f250 and it had a 6.9 with manual. i dropped a 400 in it with a c6 and kept the same drive shafts and have yet to have any problems from it.

They could work, but some trannies have a slip joint on the back and other have a fixed yoke. It depends on what kind and when the tranny was built. I did the same thing with my 67 stang, went from an auto to a stick and used my original DS. When I did the swap in my truck, my auto DS was a fixed yoke while the new stick DS had a slip joint.
