Which Timing Notch?

I just got my 256XE cam, lifters and timing set. The motor is a '78 400 overhauled by the PO less than 500 miles ago. Overhaul consisted of bearings, rings and gaskets everything else original. Ive got a 4V intake and headers for it also. Now the main question, on the timing set there are 3 notches. 4* advance, 4* retard and 0*. The instructions recomend 0* unless the cam is degreed. I dont have a degree wheel and Ive never done it so here I am askin the experts for advice. Is it worth going with 4* advance or do I stick with the 0*. Also is the 0* equal to the factory OEM 4* retard or has all that been worked out with the Comp Cams design?

Straight up my friend.
The center notch.

That cam isn't too radical.

Sounds good. At this moment I have the old cam out and it appears the PO was honest about the overhaul. I see barely used bearings. Im not too impressed with the cleanliness of the block but it has been sitting for a few years so some things are too be expected. I also found one severly bent push rod. I wonder whats up with that.... I will continue reporting my progress.
