I have a 1978 2 wheel drive F-150 that originally came with a 351 and a C6. I swapped in a 390 and C6 out of a 69 Galaxy 500 using Motor Mount towers out of a 72 2 wheel drive and motor mounts for a '76.
The only big problem I now have is that the oil pan drain plug sits over the crossmember, which makes changing the oil a little difficult and quite messy.
Has anyone else done a similar swap, and if so, how did you resolve this problem?
Otherwise, does anyone know if the truck pan, or an aftermarket one, has the drain plug in a different place?
Thats just the way the pans are. Even aftermarked pans are the same. The only way around this is to get your self an oil pan for a 4x4. That oil pan has the sump in the rear. You will also have to change the pick up tube. Hope this helps.....Tony
Various pans can appear identical, yet can have the drain in different positions; e.g. the '75 390 I put in my '66 produced the problem you're having. I thought the pans were the same - they weren't - so I put a '66 pan on it and can now drain the oil without the mess.

I have a simmilar situation with a '65 F100/FE motor. A cheap and easy fix is to fashion a rectangle of sheet metal then bend up the sides to make a channel. Make it so it catches the oil and deposits it aft of the crossmember. it also works wonders under the horizontal oil filters that puke oil all over the crossmember.
