I knew someone would ask this question. GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems and ArcGIS is a program used in the GIS field. Its kind of hard to explain in full detail but basically GIS is computer generated mapping. In my GIS class, we take aerial images of the surrounding areas, and Trace and outline key features such as roads, lakes, buildings etc. There is a lot more but that is basically all we have done so far. Its a really neat course, and the field is growing so I just thought Id see if any FTE guys are in the field. Most civil engineers use GIS.
