Leaking Pinion Carrier
My 9" third member leaks around the pinion carrier (not the pinion seal, but the bearing carrier). I've never pulled apart a 9". My questions are:
1. Does the pinion carrier have a gasket or o-ring and is that what's probably causing the leak?
2. Is it possible to remove the pinion flange, the 5 bolts for the pinion carrier, clean & silicone and then put it back together? Would that be effective?
3. If all I need to do is pull the pinion carrier, clean and silicone, is the actual pinion going to fall out.
The third member is still in the truck and I'd rather leave it there than have to pull it to do this type of repair. Your input is greatly appreciated.
