I have a 1989 F250 with a 460 fuel injected engine. The truck starts great cold but struggles when it is warm. I replaced the fuel filter, air filter and plugs. What else should I be looking at???
My 87 5.0 was doing that too. I had Napa check the battery just to be sure but it was fine. I replaced the starter and all is well. Mine got so bad that after it reached operating temp. I would have to let it cool for about 20 minutes before the starter would turn it over again and it was getting worse by the day. It could be the battery, cables, or the relay but most likely its the starter. Napa can test it for you, they did for me. Oil and grease build up around the starter mount are can mess with the electrical too.
I have a like problem mine starts hard and wont stay running I have replaced all fuel pumps and filter but It acts like its starving for fuel If you find the problem let me know ill do the same.

my truck did same thing truck is almost new because i tried to find the part, i think it is the cheapest part i ever replaced
steveo249< i would not replace the stator as i dont know enough about the conditions your truck was in when it died, hot out, cold 67 deg rainy
If it is turning over then I wouldn't replace the starter either. I just misread his post, for some reason I was under the impression the starter was dragging. Sorry about that.
^^^^^^^^ was not talking about the starter, was talking about the stator in the distributor cap, part is old gets heated= fails, means kills the engine, lots of fun moving at about 75 mph and then nothing, or siting at a light knowing its comming but ya dont know when lol
