Post Brakes

I have a 2000 F150 XL. After the truck has sat for a couple of hours when it is cold or wet, The first two or three times I touch the brake it feels like the lock up. They grab so hard I think that it has warped my rotors too. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can stop this. I let a friend drive my truck and it almost killed him.

mine is the same way as yours,so usually on wet mornings I put my foot on both the brake and accelerate at the same time, this usually warms them up a bit, after which they seem fine.( )

I had this problem on a different truck same thing, barely touch the brake and they lock!!! It's from the rust that develops with moisture on the pad and rotor but the pad is the problem, I replaced the front pads with NAPA pads (there are cheap ones and good more expensive ones made by raybestos, get the raybestos) cured my problem and these brakes stop 10 times better than the other ones, also if you have somewhere that sells raybestos pads get the Brute Stops, they are the best of all street application pads hands down. Also for like 80 bucks they sell ceramix pads that barely dust and are not sposed to Grab when wet or sitting for a week. I am going to put Ceramix on my F150 in the next couple of weeks and I will post on how they perform. BTW my F150 is doing this too but not as bad as my other truck. But if it sits for a week, forehead meet windshield.

I had the same problem on my 97. I just rode the brakes lightly as I pulled out of the driveway, seemed to get enough of the moisture off.

Ford brakes stink.

I got a Lincoln Mark 8, and Explorer, and an F150, all rotors are warped. And warp over and over.

I believe what you are dealing with is having 4 rotors instead of 2 rotors and 2 drums. Drums are more forgiving and since the rear rotors are not used as hard makes them a little more quirky.

As far as the rotors being junk. It's a result of the manufactors grinding them down to the minumim thickness for a weight savings. This of course make them more likely to warp. There are aftermarket rotors available that will resist warpage.
