The bottle says anti-gel and cetane booster. One has a red top and the other (regular cetane booster) a black top. I just bought out my dealer's supply a couple days ago.
Well, today after 393 miles, it did a regen. The regen lasted about 7 minutes. W/e Ford put in their cetane booster (I haven't had a chance to read the MSDS yet) must do something positive
All those miles were in city stop and go driving w/ idiling though I know idiling doesn't form a lot of soot. Very impressive IMO. Time to go get some more bottles of this stuff b4 my dealer runs out again.
930 miles on my ride, I've used the Ford cetane additive, and have had 2 regens, both have only lasted a few minutes, but they did both occur on the highway.
Loss of boost. Crusing at 65, I have about 10 PSI boost. In regen, it barely registers. It's either a regen, or I have nearly 1000 miles on the ride and not a single regen.
I'v spent winters in Wyoming were it gets 30 below not counting wind chill and never used anti gell in any of my previos 250s. I had a buddy out there with a duramax and he was using anti gel I don't know what kind but it caused hime some trouble, he had to have the fuel filter changed twice before he stopped using it. I don't beleive all the anti gel is neccessary. I'm interested to see how the 6.4 does in the cold if I get to visit that kind of climate again.
please forgive me if this is a crazy question but what is this regen I hear you guys talk about I have a Lariat 350 on order and I would like to know what to look for and how to maintain my workhorse so could some body break it down for me please.
The diesel particulate filter (DPF) traps soot from the exhaust. During a regen the vehicle dumps fuel into the exhaust and creates heat in the diesel oxidization catalyst (DOC) and DPF with burns off the soot into ash. During a regen it is not uncommon to have elevated exhaust temperatures, see a little white smoke and experience a loss of power and boost. Length and requency depends on your driving habbits. If you do a lot of short trips (never let the engine heat up) or in city driving (stop and go) or rush hour trafic (lots of idling) you can expect to see more frequent and longer lasting regens.
For the most part, no. It can regen in park in the driveway or garage so be aware of it, but it can also be interupted. To stop a regen when in park, apply your brake (on an auto transmition). The regen will continue once the engine and exhaust has reached the required temperature again. If at all possible try not to interupt the regen too often, as will seem like the truck is in a constant regen, since it keeps getting interupted and can't finish.
Its not that big of a deal man, I don't even notice when mine does it and as for TRYING NOT TO INTERUPT THE REGEN, I didn't by a 47,000. pickup exspecting to sit in my driveway while it regens, I don't beleive ford intended for use to do that either. Drive agressively and don't worry about it.

I'll let you know in a couple of months what they are like in the cold.
I don't know why your buddy would have problems with the anti gel it was more likely the fuel he was buying. But hey I could be wrong been there before. Also I don't think that windchill has much to do with temperatures if its fuel or steel that we are talking about. once the temp. hits -30 the steel or fuel will get to -30 the windchill will only cool something that is producing heat like us.
I'm using the Motorcraft PM-22-A cetane boost. Some of the ULSD around here is marginal and the additive keeps the engine quiet. I believe my avg mpg is going up as well. (13 to 17) 4oz for 25 gal I believe.
