just my rotten stinking luck. started replacing my cam to day, i knew it was wore out from when i did my oil pump. got every thing apart and started to pull the cam out , when out comes part of the front bearing. :-staun pulled it on out and checked the rest of the bearings and they are wore out also. looks like just the lead ? part of the bearing. well i only have 2 more days off from work before i have to have it to get me back and forth to work, only 15 miles each way. i've decided to put it back together and BABY it along till the 7th of june when my wife is done teaching school for the year. then i can take it out and have new bearings put in. at least i did find a lifter that was about to loose it's bottom, before it did. i know this ain't good but i really got no choice. thought about running straight 50wt. oil till i get them replaced. any thoughts? oh yea it's a 69 360
I don't know how you are giong to do running it with half a bearing in the front. That is where you are going to have the most pressure considering the timing chain is tugging on it. Maybe DF can clue you in as how to replace just the front one and plan on doing the other ones later. The smart thing to do would be replace the cam and all the bearings but I understand you are in a bind and you gotta do what you gotta do.
the bearing is still intact. it was the soft casing around the bearing that came out.it's been running with a loose timing chain since i've had it, about 4 weeks. i can see where some one else had pulled everything down to the cam then put it back together. i guess they filled their drawers like i did mine. it's a rock and a hard place, and the worst part is i know i'm going to ruin a new cam ( cheapest i could find 78.00) lifters, and waste a gasket set. funny thing is i set out to try and teach my boy something, the only thing he learned was how to cuss and throw things for thirty min. without having a heart attack or getting arrested. still want to sit down and cry
