This is my second oil change with now 6000 miles- I change oil almost exactly every 3000 miles. Blackstone says that the iron, copper and silicon are a little high. I guess high silicon is normal for new engines? so i"m just checking to see what you guys think and If any of you can share your results? thanks in advance I'm also using motorcraft oil and filter.
Have you been over to the BITOG forums? There are guys there who probably talk UOA's in their sleep and can tell you what's normal for these engines. One reason I have read for high silicon is dirt getting past the air filter.
Silicon can come from several sources - dust as already pointed out. Also from any silicone containing corrosion inhibiting sprays and silicone gaskets or sealers, especially in a new engine. Sometimes even from the oil's antifoam package. Have you run a baseline test on the new oil to see what elements it has naturally? I don't see anything in this list that would make me say "Holy Cow!"
Did they run a TBN test? 3K miles seems like a pretty short interval, especially if you are running the UOA on top of that, May want to look at the TBN and see if the oil still has more miles left in it.

I never though about checking the oil before I use it.
No i didnt run a tbn test, I change the oil every 3000 miles because I dont drive that much and i sits outside for four months being not used.
