I was going to change oil in my baby ('04 f250 6.0 cc srw) and when I got under it there was a lot of oil all over the back of the engine and the bell housing. I thought it was possibly the rear main seal that went out but the dealership told me that wasn't it. They have actually had it for a full day and say about all they can do is steam clean the oil off and put some UV die in the oil and have me drive it for a week. It is a completely stock truck. Basically, Is this something that is commenly done when they can not find an oil leak? If it was leaking that much oil wouldn't you be able to see something wrong fairly fast? Let me know what you think. Thanks! James!
Yes the dye is a very standard proceedure and works very well to find leaks. If the dealership was quick to tell you that it is not the rear main, you probably have a good tech working on it. With crackdowns from Ford on warranty, and as hard as some of the oil leaks are to get to, correctly troubleshooting it and fixing it right the first time is keeping heat from Ford off the Service Managers backs.
Thats good to hear. Yes, I have been to this dealership one other time and had fairly good results. Actually it is a place called Boyer Trucks (www.boyertrucks.com). They do not work on any gas engines. They actually to a lot of bigger diesel engines such as in 18wheelers a lot too. Thanks for the input!
check to see if you have a icp sensor in your right valve cover. if you dont, then it is under your turbo. the icp sensors under the turbo is an early style which have caused many oil leak concerns.
