timing ?

Talking timing ?

i was wondering if it was possible to advance the timing with out pulling the spout and not having a timing light.its a 92 f150 5.0 and i just had the timing chain replaced and it just doesnt feel the same to me anymore its lacking what was there now.

Back in the days when we couldn't afford a timing light or if you were getting ready to street race and didn't have one to borrow here's what we would do.. You can do like 92fordman said but, you must be very careful. You can loosen the distributor bolt and advance/turn it very very little. Now tighten the distributor bolt and take it out for a spin. If it doesn't ping under a very heavy load or at wide open throttle then you should be okay. Now, you can repeat this process until it starts to ping then back off the distributor a little and again you should be okay. That's how we use to do it when we didn't have a timing light! Now, with the spud I really don't know if this is still feasible but, I sure someone here will speakup and help out. Good luck!!
