Hey guys. My engine came in today. There are a few numbers that are on there that I have no idea what they stand for. Here they are. On the head, the number is 203 and D2TEAA. On the block on the front, the numbers 352 and 45. On the block on the back, 352 and 32. The motor is supposed to be a 390. I got it from advance auto parts. Also on the block up close to the head, the number 16 7 is present. The D is on there backwards, though. The 7 has a square drawn around it. Anyone know what these numbers mean? Thanks for any info you guys can provide. Sean
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-May-02 AT 09:45 PM (EST)]Well, I can tell you that it has the standard truck heads that came with the standard 360-390-428 blocks...in this case 1972 heads. These are good heads (albeit smog versions) but if you are questioning whether or not its really a 390 check the stroke to see if its @ 3.75".
It should be a 390 cause i got a 390 from a 69 fairlane
on a stand,it has 352 on the block,this 352 has some thing
to do with whatever I dunno, but it has 390 2v on the pistons,
unbored cylinders that measures 4.050, 390 badges on the car,
c8 aeh heads,plus its got a 2v,and who would turn a 352 into a
390 then put a lousy 2v on top? I say its a 390,
Every FE from the late 50s through the early 70s had "352" cast into the block, regardless of actual displacement. The 352 is meaningless. It could be a 332, 352, 360, 390, 410 or 428.
if you just have the engie itself, look at the back of the crankshaft(if you can see it) if it is a 390 it should have a square notch, whereas a 352,360 has a half moon shaped notch.
You can't really rely on the markings on the end of the crank. My 360 had the square notcth, the 390 short block I bought had a notch and square hole. The only definite way is to measure the stroke. My crank on the 390 didn't even have any casting numbers on it.
