Engine Build.

So I phoned a reputable performance engine builder and quoted my 302 being rebuilt. 2100 canadian to build it to stock. (was gonna throw a 351 in but decided against it.)

I now am wondering since it is going to be taken apart what can I do to give it more power? what are realistic gains I can see from doing some minor swaps and gettin a tune?

what are the best power adders? I dont want to do a stroker but some thing with more power. 306?

some advice.

I really do not want to change to mass air because of the e4od(If I swapped a c6 in I may think about it).

What would be my best choice of action looking for advice. thank you.

If you're going to get a chip burned for the sd anyways, a mild cam would do wonders. Long tube headers are also a great cheap upgrade. I've heard good things about the firepower ignition kit as well.

Just a thought

I got a remanufactured 351 for 1,375 US dollars. You have to change out the pan, waterpump and balancer, intakes and valve covers yourself. The engine is delivered to your doorstep and picked up at no charge. 3 year/unlimited mileage to boot.

If you do nothing else put a cam in the stock motor, it'll make all the difference. But consider this. The final assembly is not hard, all you need is a TQ wrench and common sense, anybody that can swing a wrench can assemble a motor. You can save yourself the assembly cost... probably close to half what the builder quoted... by doing the assembly yourself. You can then put that money into better pistons and rings, an upgraded cam, and high quality gaskets and seals, and still come out ahead. The exchange rate is really working in your favor these days, it was more like $0.75/Dollar when I did my build. The 351 in my truck ran me about $1500 Canadian with the mentioned upgrades plus other things. A cam upgrade will not require computer fiddling BTW, as long as you select the right cam.

I selected the 31-255-5 from comp cams as my cam its cheap and will do what I need.

I was thinking about boring it to 306 what would that be like?

and if I wanted to fiddle with the computer ?
