Okay, so over the last... maybe three days? My brakes have gotten alot stiffer & I've noticed a very loud hissing sound. Now I'm not master mechanic or anything like that, but this truck has had several vaccum leaks and I've done my best to repair them. So what I'm guessing has happened is either another vaccum leak, or a faulty brake booster. Near as I can tell & best as I can describe, when the brake pedal is depressed you hear the little ******* of vaccum leak hissing like nobodies business. Now... it's not always this way, occasionally they'll soften back up & you won't have the stiffness, or the hissing. ...I'm just not sure what to make of it and hoped that somebody else here knows what I'm talking about. Thanks guys
I had the same problem on my 72 f250 it was the brake booster the seal had gone bad. Nobody sells the seal alone so I had to replace it. My hissing was coming from under the dash where the brake peddle rod goes through the fire wall.
Thanks, so about how long untill the system completely fails? I really want to be able to take this truck camping this weekend, I figure if I don't drive it 'till friday I should be alright...
The vacuum booster is very easy to replace also check the main vacuum that goes to the booster a lot of times the booster fails due to a bad vacuum from carbon building up in the intake manifold. I defiantly would NOT drive it with the booster out!!!
