00 7.3 Excursion will not start. 60k on the odometer. Turns over and tach moves while cranking. It did this the other day but finally started after about 3 tries. Now it won't start at all. I changed the fuel filter and drained the fuel out of the bowl after the first time. I have an extra cps. Should I change that out even though the tach moves?
Thank for any help
How old is your batteries? Weak batteries will keep one from starting. You can check the battery voltage while attemptining to crank. If it falls below 10 volts, then it's not going to crank.
I think zx250 may have it. After my first post I went back out side and put the charger on the batteries. After charging a short while the engine turned over much better and it fired right up. I made the mistake of buying Walmart batteries last summer. They are terrible. I hope that was the problem. Time will tell. Thanks for the help.
May not be all the batteries fault. If your alternator is not charging at full rate the batteries can't maintain a charge. Most auto supplies houses can check the alt. output for you, free. Several here have run the Walmart heavy duty batteries and had good luck with them. For what ever reason, this seems to be the season for alternator failures.
The alternater has crossed my mind. I will have it checked. The batteries have never completely died but just dont seem to have enough power. I put the batteries in last summer and it seems like since the new batteries I have had a few electrical gremlins. Like when I turn the key and wait for the light to go out the radio will cut out for a second. I know the batteries are weak when it does that. Might not be getting a full charge. I will get the alternater checked.
Thanks
