I guess I would wonder why he would say that? They are identical in almost every way with the exception of the stroke being longer on the 5.4. A 5.4 head IS a 4.6 head and vice versa. As for ease to work on..they aren't....they share that trait too. 5.4's have the torque that the 4.6's lack.
Sounds like someone needed a turbo for the mountains! Maybe I should sell my fast car and just turbocharge my 6.8 V10. That should be able to tow nebraska on a trailor lol. And it would be hilariously fun watching a F350 melt the tires. But I doubt that would help my gas milage.
I didnt think the 4.6 and 5.4 were even built close to eachother. I knew the 6.8 was basically the same just with 2 cylinders slapped on the end of the block. Is the 4.6 in the trucks the same as the modular 4.6 in the mustangs?
My 4.6L has been very reliable, although I suspect I would welcome just a wee bit more torque and power. But I also don't notice as many blown spark plug complaints about the 4.6L's
