Shift points for Automatics

Hello all, I am very new to diesels, and I just found your site and so far I am extremely impressed! You guys really know everything about your vehicles. Anyway, I am looking to get a 95-97 psd automatic as my first ever diesel, and I was just wondering how the ride feels compared to gas engine truck, primarily the points at which the transmission shifts under normal driving and then when you really step on it! I have seen, from reading on here the past couple days, that the diesels feels sluggish off the line. Is that from the diesel or is it just like all big trucks? Basically I would love to get into the world of diesel, but I need a "test drive" so to speak. Also where did you guys find yours, because I am having a hell of a time finding anything near me? (Rochester, New York) I have mostly been looking on eBay, just to get info.

Thank you all very much, <o></o>

Ben<o></o>

From what I have read , some will say 97 was the most improved of the Old body style..
They are big & heavy, but with a few mods, they will put you back in the seat,,,You will never go back to gas,,,

Mine shifts Ok, tooting around , but it shifts much better when you are on it....

Look in my signature block to see what truck I own. It IS big and heavy. The tranny shifts fine whether running errands or RUNNING up to speed.

When I move to Idaho, my dad gave me his old '77 Chevy K-20 Camper Special, (I apologize to the community for using the "C" word), and I like the way my Ford drives and shifts. I've had her for about five years now and have no plans on getting rid of her.

Welcome. You will really like your truck. I have a manual 5speed and love it. I understand the auto's are the weak point once you start modding your truck. The %sp is stronger. The auto can be made to handle LOTS of HP but needs some work to do so. You will probbly have to look pretty hard to find the exact truck you want so good luck and be patient. These are awesome trucks and very strong. Let us know what type of OBS truck you want and what you plan to do with it aqnd we will help you look.
