First off I know it's not a truck, but the condition could happen.
Anyhow I have a 97' escort with that 2.0 ltr split port motor.
What happens is it over heats, and the way it did it leads me to
believe that it's the waterpump, or is it? now what it does at idle
and all warmed up the temp is fine and the fan turnes on to cool it.
so if it were a head gasket would it not over heat at this time??
But, when I rev the engine about 2000rpm for a couple minutes
it startes to over heat and the fan cannot catch up to it to cool it
down.
So is it my waterpump?? thats not circulating the radiator water or
is it a head gasket?? I think it's the waterpump, YOU?
If you can open the rad cap COLD ENGINE let it idle and watch the water circulate when it gets up to operating temp the water pump is most likely working.
I did'nt notice any water circulation when I had the cap off, due to the fact that
the water level was all the way to the neck, and come to think of it, my waterpump,
because of where it's located should pull the water down when I rev it up,thats one
good indication of a failed waterpump, and it was'nt doing that.
I work on VW and Audi for a living and this sounds like the classic case of plastic water pump impellor has fallen off of the pump shaft.
BMW is good for this one too.
Don't know about the Ford, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Well, had the local car doctor look it over and at this point we can rule out the head
gasket, so its down to the t stat which seems likely thats its not opening all the way
due to maybe the gunk my grandfather once used, so anyhow we are going to flush
it and replace the t stat.
Will post the results, whether there positive or negative.
And thanks for all the suggestions for our littlest of our Ford family.
