1950 flathead v8 question

Ive been running my newly rebuil 239 flattie, and all is good. Except for a small flatspot or lag in the beginning of first gear. Its not finished so i havent been able to drive through all gears and see but it seems to just be when i punch the gas is wants to stall out. Other than that it runs great, im wondering if its a carburator issue or timing or something else. If anyone can help please write. Thanks guys

My best guess would be an accelerator pump in the carb not working.

Are you running the stock Holley?

Accelerator pump would be the first thing i would look at. With the engine off look down the carb and slowly open the throttle, You should have a steady squirt of fuel.
