Hey, I'm new to the forum, But not new to fords.Anyhow i have a 1979 Ford F150 Lwb.Pulled the old and tired 351M and C6 Out and replaced them with a 5.0 Roller 302 and AOD Tranny.I still have my old starter solenoid on my fender but i had to go with a mini starter on account of my header clearance. Is there a possibility i could run my solenoid on my starter through my solenoid on my fender and make it work off the key? right now im hittin on nothin..bump the key over and it does nothing. but when i connect my solenoid wire on my starter and my power wire to my starter to my positive post on my battery..the old ford comes to life...any and all advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks
nip the pigtail off of the wire that connects to your old solenoid, extend it, and wire it up to your current starter. You will need a new cable that connects directly from the battery to the starter. (I recommending a 0 guage or larger 2/0-double aught((however thats spelled))
OR
You can use your current cables ( I hope this makes sense) What you are doing is re-using and hooking up things like you did, and adding a 1" piece of wire, between the big lug on the starter, and the one that activates the solenoid(on the starter.) When you hit the key, the old solenoid is providing power to the big lug on the new solenoid(on the starter), and activating it at the same time.
Say that three times fast!

The starter solenoid is a switch that sends a MASSIVE amount of current to component that requires lots of AMPS by using a small amount of current (few amps)
The BIG lugs on the SS (SR) ..One from battery ..and ....One to starter should have tipped you off
Well took a test light to my solenoid today and my lug to my starter wasnt puttin out any juice..damn copper washers must have got burnt..well put a new solenoid on it and it was gettin fire to the starter lug but my problem was actually my solenoid and my Park Neutral Safety switch. got it figured out and got it crankin off the key.Do appreciate all the help.
