I have a 1996 F-150 I-6, 4.9 litre truck. Anyway, for almost a year now, I have been getting this annoying engine light that keeps intermittently coming on and off.
I purchased an inexpensive Actron testor that is designed for the old OBD 1 computers. I diagnosed the problem to be error code 332, which my Chilton book says is an Insufficient EGR Flow Detected.
Question: What is the best way to troubleshoot this? Should I just replace the EGR valve, or are there a multitude of tests to do? Also, is the EGR valve located on the driver's side of the engine, craddled under the engine block? I think I saw it when I was eyeing the inside of the engine compartment.
I've got that code on my '91 before. Just had to take off the EGR valve and clean it out real good. Reset the comp and all is fine for a good while. I don't know where the valve is on the 4.9. I have a 5.0.
Thanks for the information. I will try cleaning the EGR valve, but I will say that the screws are covered pretty well by the intake manifold. Will that have to be removed? One screw seems accessible, but the other is in there a way, and blocked by one of the intake manfold tubes.
