FE indentification
I found an old FE block at my dads shop lying in a back room covered under a bunch of old truck parts. I took it off his hands and its home now in my garage. The casting # on the block says C7ME-A?? i have to scrape more crud off it to read it better. I am going to uncork the heads later today to see what size the bores are--rough est bec I dont have a micrometer. Does this sound like a 67 390 or 428? What do I need to look for to help better ID it?
thanks
regards
ben
If I have read my book correctly that number relates to a 67-70 428. When you get the heads off measure the bore and stroke.
Bore:
390 = 4.05
428 = 4.13. These numbers may be different if the block has been bored. Look on dome top of piston for a 030 or something to indicate boring.
Stroke:
390 = 3.784
428 = 3.984
Also look for a number on the crank. Hope this helps,
Lee
