Which carb you have? Autolite 4300? or the 2300 2 bbl. I have done these in my sleep,

it's the stock Motorcraft off my 83 GT, the #'s on the tag are E3ZEBGB & A3A18
I read in some of my how to books, that the Motorcraft carbs are crappy for performance. If so what cha think about Quadrajet's?

Yes the factory carb does good for stock emission carb. depending what you have for performance goodies, There would be no use in to upgrade if you are stock and intend to remain stock, if you are going to step up the performance then a bigger carb would be in your future. Depending what upgrades you are going to do would determine which replacement carb to go with, I would not upgrade to a quadrajet. You cant go wrong with the Holley series.

the engine, I'm hopefully gonna use is a old mercruser 351W rated at 233 horse W/ a 2bbl, not much i know but it will get me back on the road.

Planed upgrades include 4bbl swap of course, ignition and exhaust, just the basics for a little better power and mpg

what dont you like about quadrajet's?

Not that much against the quadrajet/Thermoquad/Eldebrock/predator/whoevers 4 bbl., just Better choices out there, the standard of course being Holley. If Holley doesn't have an application for that carb, then there isn't an application..and adjustability, with at least 3-4 major other companies blueprinting/modifing Holleys, they pretty much speak of them selves..Have you ever seen/held a dominator series? its a work of ART! Holleys used to be the OEM 4 bbl carb for OEM performance carbs. Corvette, Mustangs, Camaros, etc. all came at one time or another 'Holley Equipped'.

I have rebuilt my share of the metering rod quadrajets out there.

Just my opinion.

well, a dominator is out of my price range. All I've got is the stock motorcraft off my 83 and a quadrajet.

But I gotta admit wouldn't mind having a demon carb. And your right almost all OEM performance engines ran holley's.

I was not recomending a dominator for your Stang, Just trying to dry a point, that is a carb!!

If you have the quad, you could adapt it over, I didn't understand what you were saying..Jetting is another consideration(holley is a piece of cake), the quad is going to have to be recaled...Alot of work there, but could be done..Holley's shine were you have to tune them, you can change all the settings..

It's actually for my bronco. No disrespect intended about the dominator just meant that I cant afford it at this present moment, unless I ran across one in a yard somewhere

Is your Bronco stock? Holley makes a hell of a 2bbl. 500 cfm carb that bolts right on, unless you are going to change the manifold..

I'm putting the mercruser engine in it. and changing the manifold, over to the one from my GT (duel plane aluminum)

I know Holley makes a 2bbl for performance applications, but theirs something about a 4bbl that gets my juices flowing, that and a 4bbl can (being the operative word there) get better mpg than a 2bbl

You can get an apadter to get the Quadrajet to fit, tuning it to the Ford aplicetion is going to have to happen if you want it to run decently, The Fords small block family loves to be over-carbed..The quad may rescrit your total power and maybe even the bottom end.
