Maybe this isn't the right forum to be in, be here goes any way.
I've just run across an '84 F350 with a 6.9L IDI diesel and a seized (seller's words) T18 or T19 for a damn good price. I'm wondering if it would be possible to swap that into my '73 F250 Highboy which is currently struggling along with a 360 (no torque whatsoever). I've got an NP435 which I'm hoping to keep. 4.10s in the axles. I don't really care if I can't go any faster than 60 on the freeways. It's not a daily driver. I just use it for offroading and the occasional roadtrip (to go offroading elsewhere).
What kind of difficulties would I encounter. What about the bellhousing? Could I use my FE radiator? How about the gas tank? Is my frame strong enough? I want a diesel for the torque and mileage as well as the expandability (turbocharger, propane injection).
