Hey, U guys helped me fix my broken bolt on my thermostat housing, well it lasted a couple weeks and its leaking now. I found a cheap lower manifold online cheap and i bought it. Now i get to tear it down. While its tore apart you guys have any ideas of what else i should do? How hard will this be? I hope everything goes ok but my luck they wont! another question is.. on the lower plenum holding the upper on, or those studs? If so should i just use regular bolts? Wish me luck!
Start soaking all those bolts and nuts with PB blaster now and every day until you work on it!!!!!!!!! Do not use wd-40 WD is 80% kerosene and it is just crap!!! You might want to get a small hand torch like for soldering the type you fill with butane so you can get in those smaller areas and heat them up a little to help get them loose!! Sounds like you got a ruster like me it took me two cans of pb blaster and a full propane torch to get my front lugs off when I bought it!! Propane persuasion is in my truck full time if I break on the trail I will probably need it!! When you bolt it back together use silver antisieze on everything that threads together!! Sucks to hear that didn't hold on the thermo!

Reason: forgot a thing
the main 4 bolts that you have to be the most carefull with is the front 2 and the rear 2 becouse they are exposed to the elements and they like to rust up take your time with these or youll be drilling and tapping in hard to reach spots get a good short punch or drift pin and tap these good to try to free them up and spray the pb blaster like blue said use silver anti seize lots of it when you reasemble and if you like you can get a good stud kit from arp and not have to worry about this again good luck

O man i cant wait! Im so excited now thanks guys haha. thats on the manifold that the bolts go into the block? Why are these motors so easy to break bolts on? I had a 73 360 that i did not think twice about breaking any bolt. I cant believe it lol. Is it poor quality in the bolts?

Are you talking about the bolts that connect the upper plenum to the lower, or the bolts that connect the lower plenum to the block. Im not to worried about the bolts connecting the lower plenum to the upper because im getting a new lower and i can just use regular grade 5 bolts. Im worried about the bolts connecting the lower to the block. If those brake im really not in good shape lol.
If you don't have access to air impact. Go get a good Impact driver the kind you hit with a hammer it comes with phillips and flat bits and a 3/8" drive for sockets, USe that to loosen up the stuck bolts it is better than just trying to wrench em off with a breaker bar and leverage for steel fasteners through aluminum. Four or five whacks to the back of the impact driver and they should be loose! You still have to soak em down with PB!!!! The impact driver can be used in alot more places than a air impact and you don't have to worry about stripping em off! It is something every good mechanic should have along with a good selection of hammers to fit in tight places!!http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93481 That's a cheap one but you get the idea the best have the 3/8 on the tool and then piece that holds the screw bits that attaches to the 3/8" drive
Here this is the one I should have listedhttp://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00947641000P?vName=Tools&keyword=imp act+driver I just got that harbor freight near the top of my favorites so I always hit it first!! But the sears one that's the one I got I have had it for about 19 years and it holds up to just about everything I have thrown at it!! Just lube her up every now and then and try to not drop it in sand!!!!

Reason: clarify
the bolts that im refering to are the lower intake manifold to head bolts on the outside corners the bolts are exposed to the elements and seize easely and are a pain to fix if they break sorry didnt read all of your message your right it is a pain been there done that
good luck
