I am replacing the timing chains on my '01, F-150, 4.6L engine. The repair manual I am using suggests that I find TDC prior to the removal of the chains. I have a few questions regarding this:
1 - Is there a compression gauge out there with a long neck so that I can check for the compression stroke? If so, where can I buy one?
2 - If not, what are some other reliable methods for checking compression stroke on a 4.6L Ford engine with overhead cams?
3 - If I am replacing timing chains and gear sprockets (cam & crankshaft) can't I just replace them in the position that I find them as long as I secure the cam and crank from turning?
