i just bought a 73 f100 custom with a 302 and it sounds good with stock exhaust but a want to dual it out and i want a dep mellow tone not to lound but really deep whats the best way to go flowmaster and what type of set up should i use
I have one dual in dual out flowmaster super 40 2 1/2 pipe on my 79 its pretty quiet in the cab sounds good out side. Went with one muffler to save room not too much space under the 4x4s and I wanted the exhaust as far away from my plastic gas tank as possible. The pipes are angled out at the back corners of the bed, don't get too hung up on flow just about any dual exhaust system is going to be big enough for a stock 302, my 400 does fine even with its cam, inatake, and carb the 2 1/2 with a shared muffler does great. I would use 2" or so for a 302 if you get the exhaust to open it will kill low end power.

whatever you get, I would recommend getting some form of better sound deadening inside the cab. True duals are not always the answer. If you are not trying to race, you might consider a 2 into one exhaust (2.15 to 3") That is the best for low to mid range torque.
I prefer some of the magnaflow products over flowmasters. I am not 18, and I dont like getting my ears beat up because of a loud exhaust, and it seems like almost everyone has flowmasters, so maybe I am biased against them. however you get your exhaust set up, if you want a great deal of in cab noise, have your exhaust dump under the cab/bed. If you want it quieter, make sure it runs full legnth of the truck, dumping behind the bumper.
I, too, have a '73 F100 with a 302 and C4. Stock engine but I have long tube headers with 2" duals with "H" pipe and Magnaflows. Pipes go up over the axle and then into 3" tips pointing down at a 45 ending just aft of the axle under the bed at axle level. At idle it is relatively quiet inside, but the sound increases as speed increases, and at highway speeds it is awesome. It's not annoying at all in the cab. I like the sound and the look, and judging by the attention it gets, others do, too. However, I have not had to fight off any gorgeous babes.
well i was just wondering about the summitracing headers back it chaep with like 2.25 pipe and dual mufflers but i dont know if it will sound good it comes out in front of the tire on both sides
With headers, duals, and performance mufflers, you will be a lot happier with the sound. Having said that, several factors affect the sound differently...the size of the pipes, the mufflers themselves, the length of the pipes, the termination point, wheather tips or no tips, tip size and length...etc. For example, my exhaust exited just behind the rear wheels on either side with just 2" chrome turn downs. It sounded good and barked (rapped) on acceleration. I changed it by adding the "H" pipe and reconfiguring the termination and adding the tips. Sound changed dramatically-I like it better. If you can find a truck with a sound you like, try to duplicate it. If you set yours up like mine, I'll bet you would like it. Good luck.
I'd try 2 1/4" pipe into some kind of magnaflow,(b/c you said not to loud, but with a good tone), and then some wide long tips for the deeeeep sound. I have 22x3.5" tips, and mine is really deep. This is on my 77 F100 w/ 302
