I see alot of people talk about leveling their EX by bringing the front up. Mine is opposite; the front seems higher than the back. The truck doesn't have any signs of excessive loading or spring wear (drives fine and no sway or bounce). But I'd like to bring it up a couple inches.
My mechanic is pricing a sway bar and air bags. Will this do it? Or do I need some helper springs?
I have some airbags off of my 2005 excursion that I want to sell. Had them installed for 6 months and did the spring swap. Email me at scheckert@hotmail.com if you are interested in them.
The blocks are cheapest way. The bigger the block the better the chance that you have for getting axle warp. My front end is 1 inch taller then the rear. In the next couple months a am going to get rid of my blocks and buy a 5 inch leaf pack and hopfully my rear will be 1 inch taller then the front. Just like it was factory for towing purposes.
I installed the Roadmaster Active Suspension in my Ex, and not only did it make a nice difference in handling, it also brought the back up a bit. My Ex sat dead level before...but this brought it up just a bit and I like the look.
That said, it could not have raised it "that" much as it still fit into my parent's garage for working.
Like Matt M, I installed the RoadMaster active suspension on the rear of my Ex. I've tried air bags and for me they gave my Ex a different feeling that I didn't like...not sure why...
I tow a 9000# 34' ball to bumper TT with over 1100#'s of tongue weight...the RoadMasters raised the rear of the Ex ~1.25" and REALLY helps keep it there when I hang the tongue weight back there...plus I've got 1400# spring bars on my WD hitch to help balance the load...
The RoadMasters have done the trick for me.
As far as 'leveling'...the rear of the Ex always 'looks' lower than the front...measuring mine that wasn't the case but now the 'look' is more natural.
A sway bar will do NOTHING to raise the rear...all that will do is tie the body to the axle and reduce ROLL in corners...IMO it is a MUST to have one on the rear of the Ex...although...In hindsight...I'd try the RoadMaster FIRST to see how that helped body roll as they are tied frame to axle as well...but thru a spring...not a stiff spring steel member if you will...a coil spring for the RoadMaster.
