Just bought 2004 Expy. Battery light is on. Guy I bought from said he had alternator and battery checked and both checked out fine. Shop told him they couldn't find the cause and it was probably something wrong with the programming in the truck? Truck runs great no other problems. Any ideas where to start? Thanks, John
they checked the battery output? That may be fine but what about the voltage regulator? Is it part of the alternator? I am not familiar with the system, just throwing out some ideas.
The guy I bought the Expy from said the light had been on for about the last 40,000 miles. He didn't want to take it back to the dealer to have it fixed. I don't really want to either. The truck has 199,766 miles on it!!!

You bought an 04 expedition with 200 grand miles on it? That's near 200 miles a day? That's rough on any vehicle other than a big rig....I hope he took good care of the maintanence schedule, otherwise you're looking at some short lifespan.

Not to get off topic here, but I'd say 200 miles a day isn't that hard on it at all. Means there were lots of long trips, and probably a fair amount of highway driving.
Short trips and city driving would worry me much more.
This is my 3rd high mileage Expy. I have a 98 with 227,000 on it, it had 158,000 when I bought it. I have a 2001 with 215,000 on it, it had 176,000 on when I bought it. They all came from the same company, salesmens vehicles. The only thing I have had to do other than regular maintainence was a alternator on both. This 04 I had to put new tires, rear brakes and a front axle seal on it. The only other thing is that battery light.
