We have a 2002 escape without any problems for the first year we have had it. Well tuesday 9-11 the car was runnin' fine then loss all power, the only thing it would do was idle but was very rough. After it idled for a few minutes with me pumpin' the gas with very little response it finally came back to life. We made it home with no problem, didn't drive or start till thursday. I changed oil, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned IAC. Car started and run perfect, till I went for the test drive, know it's WORSE. It won't move out of it's own tracks, just barely runs has no power, and backfiring a little, Any suggestions before i drain the tank?
No check engine light, i figured it would come on, but no. I can't drive it to have the codes scanned. Does autozone loan scanners in their loan a tool program? Would it show up a bad coil or plug even though no check engine light? Thanks for the reply JOE
I would think that as bad as it is running, you would have a code set by now. I don't know if AZ loans out scanners (doubt it) but they do sell some for short money. Around $50 should get you a basic reader. Finding a problem with it once and it pays for itself.
I agree with Nitramjr. the scanner is a good call and also the IAC even though it haas been cleaned is a likely culprit. I had cleaned my a few months back and it was still running sluggish. I asked the Ford Stealership if you could clean them, they stated that you could but sometimes that it would not fix the problem. Long story short. A trip to Autozone and $42.00 bucks later the problem was resolved. I have seen the OBDII Scanners from Harbor Freight Tool for $39.00. Not to sure of the reliability but it is cheap enough. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys I'm gonna see what I can get done today. The way it acts is like it's not getting any gas or very little, but now I think about the IAC messing up. Time to check for codes, I'll update when I find out something.
Thanks guys i have a buddy that's a certified ford mechanic and he mentioned about the Mass Air Flow. Not had time to look at the car, cause my wife's in the hospital. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks I'll try to pinpoint and get it fixed. Already changed the fuel filter, checked fuel pump, all was ok. Thanks for the help guys, JOE
