I gotta ask, what's the deal with this CPS? Sounds like the Dodge 98'-2002' VP-44 injection problem...common issue? what happens if it craps? do i need a spare Burped an injection pump once on the cummins but you aint keepin that in your glovebox
Yeah luckily the CPS fits in the glove box along with a 10mm open end wrench to change it. look here http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/cps.html
the part # is F7TZ12K073B the rule around here is get Two, a spare for your self and any PSD you see stranded on the side of the road .
OBTW another good thing is NO DOWEL OF DEATH in a PSD
OH, OK...it's a camshaft position sensor, yeah, cummins had that issue too....i remember sitting at a light and the truck would just shut off for no good reason OK, been their, done that, crawled under the truck on the side of the road etc...OK, no biggie. And by the way...the "KDP" (killer dowel pin...LOL) was a cummins favorite
Get a tranny cooler, tranny temp gauge, external tranny filter (less important than the first two)...you put chips in this truck without protecting the tranny, you will have to spend big $$ on a tranny. Oh yeah, welcome pal!
Yeah, they do, just some are better than others. some(99-00) are vaned air to metal coolers with 17ribs, (01-03) are 23 ribbed coolers, and then the 6.0 cooler which fits our trucks too is a whopping 31 ribs.
Well, I dont plan on beating the panties off it anyway so I should be Ok w/o goiung too nuts on the trans (VB excluded...must have), did that w/ the ole 96 12 Valve Cummins (man, that was bullettproof) 'shame the truck didn't hold up like the motor
From what I've read, the 7.3L PS is a great engine. My question is about maintenance costs for the truck, as a whole. How does the cost of maintenance for a F-250 with a PS compare to a F-150 with a 5.4L?
For me...I see essentially two options (cost/money wise). Get a ~'99 or so PS or get a '02 or so F150. My driving factor for getting a 250/PS is that any truck I'm going to get is likely going to have 100k+ miles. I think I'd be better off getting a PS with 100k+ than a 5.4 with 100k+ (I've seen plenty of 5.4L trucks for sale with rebuilds in that mileage range). I'm capable of doing much of the maintenance/repairs myself, however my time tends to be limited. I often wind up having to just drop my vehicles off at a garage to get worked on.
My second question is where are you guys finding diesel equipped 4WD F-250's for sale? In my area, I see a LOT of PS F-250. However, I see VERY few for sale. I take that to be a good thing.
I'm in the same newbie boat and thought I'd ask my questions here (rather than creating another thread with the same question).
