Maybe someone can answer this. Why are folks willing to pay $90+ for a used cup holder Superduty Cup Holder
When you can buy a new genuine Ford replacement for $48, in exactly the color you need, from a couple of the sponsors of this forum? I ordered from one of them and had it on my doorstep 2 days.
Because on ebay all the sellers (the vast majority) think that their product, whatever it may be) is gold. Everybody wants top dollar for their junk. Conversely, all the buyers want the product for dirt cheap. That's why sites like these are good. Guys will point out blatant rip-offs when they see them. It pays to do the research.
I've gone on Ebay a few times looking for something specific. Most of the time I can't find anything that I want or need. When I do, the price and the shipping cost is more than I could buy the item brand new. Needless to say, I haven't bought anything. I'm not saying that there aren't any good deals to be had, they are just very few and far between. I figure that if I can't get it delivered to my door for 70% of the "new" price or less, it's not worth buying anything "pre-owned". I still look occasionally.

how does the seller think thier product is worth gold, when its the bidders who bid it up to that price?
I've bought a couple of things and saved 50% or so; however, most of the time what I've wanted I can buy new for the same price or within 5%. Shipping usually kills the deal for me. I did buy a pair of brand new boots, never worn for 1/2 the price of new. They were two sizes too small and are insulated so I can't wear them unless it's 0 degrees outside, but they were cheap.

Amen to that, jake00!!
There are some auctions where the seller sets either the initial or reserve price above what the item is worth, but for this particular auction, this price is being overly inflated by bidders that have failed to do their homework and have some kind of blind belief that just because it is an auction that they are getting a deal.
If you think car parts are bad, start looking at auctions for computer parts. I have seen video cards and hard drives go for close to twice the fair market price.
that auction started at 19.99. Sounds reasonable to me for a $48 item. People tned to get into a 'bidding frenzy' at times. If you look at the bidders, the two driving the price have a low score, they'll learn.
I use ebay all the time! It's like a giant garage sale! Being in alaska it's hard to find used stuff, ebay helps with that. As long as the seller is honest it's hard to get ripped off. I try to only buy from private individuals w/ good feedback and pictures of what they're selling.
I had someone email me to bitch about how high the bids went on an auction before, how can I control it? No-one ever has to pay more than they want to, thats the beauty of it.
I'm in need of purchasing a new cupholder for my 99 F250 SD - saw that same auction on eBay and thought that was an insane price to pay. Anyway - I'm still looking around for a place that sells direct replacements or if there is a way to fit a newer style cupholder in there in place of the old original rubber flap mess, without going to the stealership.
I've bought tons of stuff on ebay. You have to do your research first then look for a good price..
Dick
I have to agree completely. I have passed up a lot of items because others were bidding up the price well beyond what the item is worth. Like 99f350 said, do your research. If the item you want is priced too high, be patient and wait for another one to come along that is priced more reasonably. That has been my stradegy and I've been able to get the items I wanted at a good price.
Heck I bought my truck on e-bay! It's a 2002 F-250 Superduty Reg cab 4x4 XLT fully loaded with a V-10 and a six speed. Brand new,and saved 10k off the sticker price! I was looking for a deal on a good used truck. I never would of found it without e-bay.

The '01-04-ish is a direct swap. Some colors aren't an exact match, but most are close
I sell on eBay although what I sell is not car/truck parts. I don't rip people off or charge outrageous postage to make my profit. I'm not going to give what I sell away (I have a decal/printing business) but I have seen some that try.
You just have to pay attention to the details, seller feedback, etc.
When it comes to (auto) items I no longer want...and feel someone out there might get use out of it...I sell on eBay. I ALWAYS price low...and set a really low reserve. I am NOT into making a profit...and feel people will pay what they think is fair. My shipping costs reflect the actual cost. I do not inflate my shipping costs.
I have also purchased hard to find items for my 1976 F150 4x4. Feels good to be able to find items...that would cost a premium elsewhere.
