replacing ac clutch
I noticed a rattling about a week ago on my 2000 f150. when i opened the hood it looked like the ac clutch was rattleing. since then it rattles more, and the belt squeals a bit. When I turn the AC on it makes a big rattleing noise. First I want to make sure that it is only the clutch and not the whole compressor with the problem. Second I would like to know if there are any tricks to changing the clutch before I begin the job.

This summer I replaced the whole compressor/clutch on my truck. The clutch was rattling like you describe and then It finally locked up and I couldn't even start my truck. What I found out is that your better off to replace the whole thing if your doing it. The cost isn't that much more and then you have all new parts in there.
